ABOUT THE KENTUCKY OAKS
The Kentucky Oaks is a premier race for three-year-old fillies held in the
US, and is typically run the day before the Kentucky Derby, one of the
three races that make up the Triple Crown. The Triple Crown is a title
awarded to a horse who wins these races that are run from May to June
            – the Kentucky Derby (2,000m), the Preakness Stakes (1,900m) and the
Belmont Stakes (2,400m). One of the traditional highlights that takes
place before the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Oaks offers attractive
prize money of up to USD1 million.

The Kentucky Oaks was founded by Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr in 1875,
along with the Kentucky Derby. As one of the oldest horse racing events
in America history, the Oaks has become an annual sporting event that
attracts over 100,000 attendees every year. Pink is the official color of the
Kentucky Oaks. The racetrack is decorated in pink, and guests prominently
incorporate pink into their attire, creates a charming atmosphere. In
addition, in honour of the Oaks official flower – the stargazer lily – the
winner of the Oaks receives a large garland of pink-hued stargazer lilies.

During Kentucky Oaks Day, the historic racetrack is decorated in pink
bunting and guests are asked to prominently incorporate pink into their
attire in an effort to raise funds and focus national attention on the fight
against breast and ovarian cancer. The event culminates in the Survivors
Parade - a march of breast and ovarian cancer survivors that takes place on
Churchill Downs’ historic racetrack prior to the running of the Longines
Kentucky Oaks race. Pink Out has raised more than USD820,000 for
charity in the past eight years.
