Best time for mares to breed

Fillies reach puberty at 15-24 months
of age, and are ready to breed by three
years old, although four years old is
considered the optimal age to breed a
mare. Horses in the wild typically mate in
the spring so that they foal in the spring
of the following year, when the grass is
green and growing. For pasture-raised
thoroughbreds, breeding can occur at any
time of the year. The mare will have an
oestrous cycle of around 21 days, with it
being in season for five to seven days.

母马适宜配种时间

母马在15到24个月时达到青春期，二至三
岁就已经成熟并适合生育，但是四岁则是
最佳的生育年龄。野生的马交配时间
通常在春季，这样仔马可在次年的
初春出生，正是草料丰富的季节。
人工圈养的马可在一年中任何时间
交配，但是通常也在春季至秋季
间。母马发情周期为21天，发情期
一般为5至7天。
