Lockheed stamped himself as a
potential star of the future when
racing away to a dominant win during
the famed ‘Glorious Goodwood’ racing
carnival in late July, the Qatar EBF
Stallions Maiden Stakes (1400m) was
the stage for Lockheed’s self-promotion
as he was tested against and bested some
of the more promising young racehorses
in Britain.
The display was subsequently franked
with Lockheed going on to place in the
G3 Acomb Stakes and the G1 National
Stakes – one of Europe’s premier races
for two-year-olds. In 2017 trainer
William Haggas is expected to target
some of the highest profile races in
Europe with the striking colt with the
English, Irish and French 2000 Guineas

in his sights as is the G1 Commonwealth
Stakes at Royal Ascot.
“Lockheed had a very encouraging start
to his racing career in 2016 and he is one
of the potential stars for the China Horse
Club in the Year of the Rooster,” said
Mick Flanagan, the China Horse Club’s
European Racing Manager.
“It is only early in the season and there
are many options open to him. He is a
quality individual and if he can secure
a G1 win as a three-year-old he will
become the club’s next stallion prospect
following in a long line of star stallions
that began with Australia and includes
an Australian Horse of the Year, an
American Horse of the Year and a litany
of others.”
